Biography

For three decades, I've led and transformed independent schools across diverse contexts—Montessori to traditional, single-gender to coeducational, day to boarding, PreK through grade 12, and specialized learning environments. I've taught toddlers through twelfth graders while leading strategic planning, financial growth, capital campaigns, and cultural transformation—always maintaining connections with students as teacher, advisor, chaperon, and coach.

This breadth taught me that core leadership challenges are remarkably consistent: creating cultures of excellence, building sustainable organizations, and ensuring every community member thrives. Great leadership requires courage to embrace change, resilience to navigate uncertainty, and wisdom to build empowered teams. I've managed multi-million dollar budgets and raised millions while learning that sustainable transformation happens when people feel valued and challenged.

Now I'm channeling these experiences into Lantern & Ladder Leadership—a practice for independent school and nonprofit leaders navigating mission and margin, complex stakeholders, and the isolating nature of leadership. Whether you're a new head, aspiring administrator, experienced leader in transition, or leadership team aligning around priorities, I bring empathy and expertise to help you move forward with confidence.

When not working with leaders, you'll find me at Fenway Park cheering for the Sox, in the kitchen attempting new recipes, traveling with my wife Sarah, or behind my camera lens capturing sunsets. After 33 years of marriage and raising two wonderful adult children, I've learned that the best leadership—like the best life—comes from staying curious, authentic, and committed to growth.
