Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT) in Coaching

About this event

Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is an evidence-based behavioral framework that integrates seamlessly with coaching. At its heart is psychological flexibility—the ability to stay present, open up, and act in alignment with values, even in the presence of discomfort.

This highly interactive session introduces the six core principles of ACT—Cognitive Defusion, Contact with the Present Moment, Acceptance, Self-as-Context, Values, and Committed Action—and explores how they strengthen and expand ICF Core Competencies.

Through coaching examples and experiential practices, participants will learn how to support clients in holding thoughts lightly, opening to emotions, reconnecting with values, and taking committed action. Attendees will leave with coaching-ready tools to help clients move beyond avoidance or entanglement and into sustainable, values-based growth.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand the six core principles of Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) and how they cultivate psychological flexibility in coaching clients.
  • Experience practical ACT-based exercises that can be integrated immediately into coaching conversations.
  • Apply ACT tools in ways that map directly to ICF Core Competencies, strengthening skills in maintaining presence, listening actively, evoking awareness, and facilitating client growth.

Presenter: Jory Stillman, MCC
Welcome, I’m Jory, founder of ExpansiveCoach.

I partner with thoughtful, growth-oriented individuals navigating the complexities of real life: leading in demanding roles while nurturing marriages or relationships, raising children or supporting adult children in transition, caring for aging parents, and engaging with their community. These are people who carry a lot and who want to move through it with steadiness, authenticity, and intention.

This is where the Expansive Coaching Framework comes in. Together, we slow down, listen deeply, and expand what is possible. You might be stepping into a higher leadership role, asking hard questions about relationships, building something new, or making a bold life change. With the framework, we look beyond strategy to explore values, nervous system patterns, and the inner landscape that shapes sustainable growth. My approach integrates positive psychology, cognitive behavioral coaching, and somatic practices such as breathwork, mindfulness, and visualization into client-led work that is practical, soulful, and transformative.

With over 5,000 hours of coaching across industries, cultures, and continents, I have walked alongside leaders, founders, and mission-driven individuals as they left golden handcuff jobs, launched businesses, deepened their marriages, pursued new relationships, relocated across the world, and redefined how they lead and live.

As a Master Certified Coach (MCC), coach educator, ICF assessor, and ICF mentor coach, I bring both professional rigor and a deeply human touch. I support coaches pursuing their ICF credentials, ACC, PCC, and MCC, through both individual and small-group mentoring, helping them grow their skills, presence, and confidence at every stage of development.

Like many of my clients, I have navigated seasons of transition including late marriage, step-parenthood, infertility, the inner work of well-being, and now the shift into empty nesthood. These experiences do not define me, but they shape the way I coach: with empathy, steadiness, and conviction that growth is possible even in complexity.

This is Expansive Coaching, a partnership that embraces your full humanity and supports you in creating a life and leadership that feel sustainable, authentic, and truly your own.
